The UK government is in consultation over plans to charge foreign vehicles up to £10 a day to use UK roads.  The consultation will run until 18 April 2012.

Implementation is not likely to be before 2015 though and will be subject to the legislative program.  The precise charge level will depend on factors such as the exchange rate and inflation at the time.

By law, the scheme cannot discriminate between UK-registered vehicles and vehicles from elsewhere in the EU.  It is thought the most likely measure will be a reduction in Vehicle Excise Duty for UK-registered vehicles.

We will keep you posted as more concrete facts and figures emerge.
