Our new rail freight service between EU and GB was launched in 2021 as an alternative mode to road. We have worked hard with our European partners to bring a product that we feel represents fantastic opportunities for our customers. The rail sector is undergoing substantial investment and its continued stability is increasingly proving attractive to those currently using historic modes of transport.
The environmental benefits of using rail are well known, producing lower carbon emissions and less local air pollution helping businesses reach their sustainability goals. Each freight train removes up to 76 lorries from the road, resulting in 1.6 billions fewer HGV kilometres every year. Sustainable transportation should be a priority in an age where climate change is very evident, and we’re happy to be able to offer this service for freight.
Freight trains achieve over 95% reliability in on-time performance; It can also be highly responsive to changing demand and can be flexible and organized at short notice.
The rail freight companies continue to invest and reduce costs for customers. Increased payload is one example, with tonnage per train up by 80% in the last decade.

As part of our multimodal solutions 45’ containers with a GWV max of 26.5 tons and 85 cbm3 volume are standard. However, a very attractive solution which is proving popular is the 30’ container. This size proves cost-efficient for many products due to its high GWV of 28 tons. With a volume capacity of 54 cbm it manages to provide excellent returns for dry bulk, bulk liquid and gases alike.
